Benny Davis: Four Chords Fame, Real Musicianship, Comedy That Sings

Benny Davis

You probably know that moment — you're humming along to some massive pop hit and suddenly realise it's the exact same four chords as every other massive pop hit. That's Benny Davis's fault, and we mean that as a total compliment. He spent a decade as the keyboard force behind comedy rock legends The Axis of Awesome, racking up over 20 million YouTube views with their "Four Chords" medley and touring Australia, the US, UK and Europe — including a night at the Sydney Opera House. A genuine graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Benny brings real musicianship to everything he does. The guy can actually play. Like, really play.

What makes Benny's work special is that it's never music used as a vehicle for jokes, or jokes used as an excuse to play music — it's both things at once, and both things are excellent. One moment you're genuinely moved by a melody; the next you're completely losing it at the punchline, sometimes in the same bar. His solo shows carry all the craft from years on big stages, and he's brought that same energy to Dragon Friends, the comedy D&D podcast on Sanspants Radio, where he proves he's just as funny away from the piano as he is behind it.

At Kookaburra's Comedy, we have him on as much as possible — a great excuse to get out of the house, honestly.
