Ian Mu: Southwest Sydney Roast Comedy & Fast Wordplay

Ian Mu is a Sydney comedian from Southwest Sydney who got into stand-up in the most 2020 way imaginable — COVID hit, lockdowns dragged on, and somewhere between reruns and restlessness, he stumbled onto comedy podcasts. Shows like Bad Friends flicked a switch. He enrolled in a stand-up course, threw himself into the open mic circuit, and three and a half years later, he's a genuine fixture on the Sydney scene. Not bad for a lockdown experiment.
Catch Ian live and he won't ease you in. His style is bold, aggressive roast comedy — rapid-fire insults, tight wordplay, cultural references landing faster than you can track. He's also sat down on the Rice n Mics podcast to talk breaking into Sydney's stand-up scene, and now sits in the Yeah Mad cast — the Australian YouTube comedy series featuring sharp Sydney acts.
Performing interstate and internationally, Ian keeps his roots planted firmly on Sydney stages — and Kookaburra's Comedy has become exactly the kind of home base his punchy, crowd-grabbing sets were made for.
