Julia Wilson: 20+ Years, Zero Filter, Sydney’s Boldest Storyteller

Julia Wilson

Julia Wilson has been making Sydney audiences laugh, gasp, and completely lose their minds for over 20 years. She grew up on the city's beaches, got shipped off to an all-girls Catholic school, and then life took some genuinely wild turns before she landed behind a microphone. Truck driver. Pub bouncer in some of Sydney's roughest venues. Reluctant accountant. Brief music student at the Australian Institute of Music. Her résumé reads like a fever dream, and TV credits including Love My Way and the film Oyster Farmer somehow feel like the least surprising part of it.

The comedy is rapid-fire, gloriously filthy, and stuffed with stories drawn straight from that extraordinary life. Drum Media called her "tough as a sack full of nails," ComedyLive reckoned "laughter rips through her audiences like wildfire," and she's been named Australia's boldest stand-up comedian, which feels about right. Shows like Scarred Not Scared and Namaste Cvnts are the kind of nights people are still talking about years later. Nobody else on the Australian circuit is doing quite what Julia Wilson does.

Comedy has taken her across Australia, Britain, South Africa, Croatia, Germany, and Canada, with appearances at the Sydney Comedy Festival along the way. Back home, she's a regular at Kookaburra's Comedy, Sydney's best bet for catching her when she's in town.
